The pet industry is a several billion dollar a year industry so if you can capture even a portion of that amount you can make really good money. There are really two areas of pet products you need to think about. The first is pampering of the pet. These would be things like dog beds, cat trees, gerbil houses, etc. People are willing to spend incredible amounts of money on their pets' comfort and are always looking for new things. If you can get the customer to believe the pet will enjoy the product then they will pay almost anything.
In the US at least family sizes are getting smaller all the time so people are humanizing their pets in order to compensate for having few children or no children. These people really start to think of their pet as on the level, or even higher, than other humans. This is really a late twentieth century phenomenon. If you look at pet cemeteries you will not find the word friend used on pet tombstones until after World War II. Before that the inscriptions usually read "faithful servant" or some other wording that indicates the pet was viewed as less than human. People will spend all kinds of money now that they view their pets as friends.
The other type of product deals with changing the behavior of the pet. A dog with a bad habit is no fun to be around thus all the products designed to change the habits. For example we have a dog that barks all the time so we use an anti-bark collar. We only have to put it on once and the dog remembers for about a week to not bark then we put it on again. A citronella bark collar works very well if you have dog who's barking drives you mad.
We spent money on a collar because we like our dog but we just didn't want to hear it barking all the time. You can make money if you find ways to sell products online for the pet industry.
